The CHECKERED STEP CHAWAN: hand-thrown in 'S' silhouette, honouring one of many historical Chawan forms of Chinese, Korean & Japanese pottery. Hand-painted cobalt with iron decorative painting employs a traditonal Andean Step motif; this tea-bowl invites aesthetic contemplation of the repeating geometry and play of positive/negative space. Its sidewall is thrown to a fine lightness, with a minor 'saddle' curve in its rim. This bowl features a food-safe clear glaze, exposing a granular tan stonewear claybody with mica grog. Suited best for Summer matcha whisking with less thermal mass and large pool surface-area. However it's perfect to eat and drink from, and is well suited in any culinary or decorative setting to highlight excellent craftsmanship and rustic artistry.
